This is funny! page 46
"Two families who settled in Dysart in 1863 came directly from England and worked for the Canadian Land and Emigration Company in unknown capacities
"They came with the completion of the Haliburton road"
The other famlily was Abraham Parsonage, wife Mary Ann, and Henry, Everett, Frederick, Marian, and baby Elinor.
"[after the Parsonage family entry] The second family were the Thompsons. Richard and Martha were a middle-aged couple with four teenagers, Joshua, John, James and Jane. They settled on Lot 5, Con V, and in the early years, Richard worked for the Stewart farm. What little we know about this family revolves around horses. For instance, in 1880, due to the Victoria Rail way's negligence in maintaining the Station Road, Richard Thompson's horse was fatally injured when it stumbled over a bank. After an exchange of polite but firm letters between the municiple solicitor and the Railway Company, Thompson received a payment of $30 for damages. In 1883, Thompson's son James lost his horse in a similar accident on the Haliburton Road North near the Dart homestead. He left the dead animal in the middle of the road, and had to be reminded by Council to remove the carcass, which was obstructing traffic.
In the twenty-two years he lived in Dysart, Richard Thompson succeeded in clearing only nineteen acres. In 1885, the whole family moved away and did not return"
